And less than a week after his electoral setback in the legislative elections, Emmanuel Macron refuses to appear weakened.
“France is in a parliamentary situation that it experienced in 1988

is above all horribly banal at European level,” he said during the closing press conference of the summit, in response to a question on the impact that the political situation could have on France's European leadership.
“Even if there is a relative majority in Parliament today, it appears to be very important compared to many other parliamentary systems with pure proportionality,” he continued.
By specifying in passing that, out of 27 Member States of the European Union (EU), “twenty” have coalition governments, “some with five, six, seven partners”, and others “minority governments”.

The desire to trivialize and relativize the loss of his absolute majority in the National Assembly is thus clearly displayed by the president.
He even joked that he had “often been criticized for having too much power”

Should we also see a message aimed at reassuring its European partners, while some Brussels diplomats are already wondering about France's ability to "advance its priorities at the table of Twenty-Seven" after this electoral slap?
