The time has come: The fourth city cycle is about to start.

It starts this Saturday, June 25th.

Then it's time to pedal as often as possible for three weeks.

Four districts are participating this year.

A record.

District

- She got into a sweat, the bike kept her busy.

In the end, the speedometer showed 250 kilometers.

"I was happy, a great thing," said District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß with a laugh at a press conference on the "Villa Rustica" site in Peiting yesterday, Thursday.

The top employer of the Weilheim-Schongau district was not the only one who tried the pedals - she joined the number 2669. That's how many people took part in the popular "city cycling" last year.

Converted to the energy balance, this means: 72 tons of carbon dioxide were saved in this way.

A remarkable record.

As many kilometers as possible

One that the organizers - including the district office, department "Gesundheitsregionplus" - should ideally surpass this year.

Starting tomorrow, Saturday, the time has come: for three weeks, until July 15, anyone who wants can get on a bike and ride as many kilometers as possible.

In concrete terms, this is how it works: Participants become part of a team and register on the portal www.stadtradeln.de.

He then writes down every kilometer he drives and enters the respective number in the portal - either on the same day or totaled at the end of the campaign.

Whether from home to work, whether on excursions or on the way to the shops: every kilometer counts.

Having fun is the biggest motivation

But you shouldn't feel compelled to do it, it should be fun, adds District Office employee Benedikt Wiedemann, who himself likes nothing better than to get on a bike and ride as much as possible: "Of course it should be fun.

That is the greatest motivation.”

At the end, the total number of kilometers driven is calculated.

Last year it was a whopping 192,000 kilometers.

"That corresponds to an energy saving of ten to twelve people over a whole year - including driving, heating and air travel," said Jana Krekeler, an employee of the health department in Weilheim.

15 municipalities are participating

In view of the vast amounts of energy that is consumed every day throughout Germany, this seems like a drop in the ocean: "But many drops still make the stone wet."

Into the future with a dream grade of 1.0

The chances are good this year: 15 municipalities from the districts of Weilheim-Schongau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach have already registered.

In the local region, these are Altenstadt, Bernried, Huglfing, Iffeldorf, Oberhausen, Peißenberg, Peiting, Penzberg, Polling, Raisting, Schongau, Seeshaupt, Steingaden, Weilheim and Wielenbach.

Discover the beauty of nature

Climate protection is one of the central goals, but it is about much more: your own health and the view of the beauty of the landscape.

“Many people who travel by car or public transport have no idea what nature is like around them.

You will be amazed at how many beautiful spots we have,” said Jochner-Weiss happily.

She herself will also be part of the party again.

your goal?

"Definitely more than last time," she said, laughing.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.
