On July 1, the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland is approaching. The police said earlier that appropriate police force would be arranged on that day to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of July 1-related activities.

Today (24th), the police dispatched a new domestically produced "Saber-Toothed Tiger" armored vehicle for the first time to the area of the Legislative Council and the Government Headquarters, and dispatched nearly 20 anti-terrorist task forces and half a hundred personnel of the mobile unit to patrol the scene.

The "Saber-Toothed Tiger" armored vehicle arrived at Tim Mei Road, Admiralty with a number of officers from the Counter-Terrorism Special Task Force on board at around 6 pm. The officers of the Counter-Terrorism Special Task Force then patrolled the Government Headquarters and the Legislative Council with more than 500 mobile units.

At about 7 pm, officers arrived at the Central Pier to patrol the area, which lasted about 15 minutes.

The police said earlier that in 2018, the police began to purchase six new armored vehicles to replace the "Ruiwu" armored vehicles that have been in service for more than 10 years, and will complete the bidding process in October 2021.

The fourth-generation "Saber-Toothed Tiger" armoured vehicle of the Police Force is manufactured in the Mainland and delivered to the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department for testing in April this year.

After testing, the armored vehicle was delivered to the police force in May for in-house training and qualification.

The police said that in addition to enhanced protection, the "Saber-Toothed Tiger" is also equipped with a multi-hole launcher, which can use different types of low-lethality ammunition, and is equipped with an advanced camera system.

In the past, mainland media reported that the armored vehicle was equipped with tear gas cannons, sonic dispersers, etc., and multiple shooting holes in the body.

The tires also have special devices that can continue to drive even if they leak.
