Nuremberg experienced a police operation that was anything but ordinary on Friday.

The focus was on a couple and an apparently deceptively real carnival pistol.

Nuremberg – Involuntarily, but not through no fault of their own, a couple in Nuremberg triggered a large-scale police operation on Friday afternoon (June 24).

The man and the woman even faced emergency services with service weapons drawn.

The law enforcement officers were deployed because the 25-year-old was said to have been seen with a firearm near the Lorenzkirche in the city center.

He was staying with a woman on a park bench in a green area in Pfarrgasse and was handling a pistol, it was said when the operations center of the Central Franconia police headquarters was alerted at around 2:15 p.m.

The law enforcement officers did not want to take any risks and moved in with a large number of emergency services.

The support command (USK) was also there.

The area of the green space was cordoned off and secured over a large area.

Police operation in Nuremberg city center: law enforcement officers approach man “with service weapons drawn”

Around 3 p.m., the police spoke to the couple, and they approached them “while observing their own safety and with service weapons drawn”.

The man and woman were tied up as a precaution before officers discovered the suspected firearm.

This turned out to be "apparently a newly purchased carnival pistol".

The police assume that the couple wanted to take a look at the new acquisition in public.

It probably didn't occur to them what impression the sight can make on their fellow human beings.
