The Russian ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, said that the US decision to impose duties on Russian fertilizers will lead to a rise in food prices.
"Washington's actions raise the concern of our country, which is interested in strengthening global food security," Antonov was quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency as saying in a comment posted on the embassy's Telegram channel.
He added, "Western countries are trying to convince the international community that the restrictions do not apply to Russian agricultural exports... At the same time, they are taking steps that lead to further price increases... As a result, businesses have been damaged and the suffering of the population, including the Americans, has increased."
Antonov stressed that Russian chemical companies "were intending to remain a reliable supplier of high-quality products at competitive prices," noting that farmers' demand for Russian fertilizers is high even in the United States.
