The 9-euro ticket caused a small punk and party crowd invasion on Sylt.

The inhabitants defend themselves against the visitors with unusual methods.

Sylt – Shortly after the 9-euro train ticket was approved, the holiday island of Sylt already feared a large tourist rush.

This caused mainly party tourists and punks to flood the North Sea island.

The pictures of the occupied Sylter Strasse have caused a stir across Germany in recent weeks.

The locals and holidaymakers on the otherwise quiet island are now fighting back - with concrete blockades.

The Pentecost days in particular were difficult for the residents of the island, which is normally known for its exclusivity and celebrity visitors.

The situation has changed a little this summer due to the party vacationers, so the crowds and noise are causing sales to drop and locals to be frightened.

Property owners, restaurateurs and commercial operators also fear further economic damage.

After complaints from the residents, the people of Sylt felt compelled to block a private passageway in the 9,000-resident town of Westerland with concrete blocks.

As Nikolas Häckel, the non-party mayor of the municipality of Sylt, confirmed on Thursday, the population is now protecting themselves from the punks and party tourists who had already celebrated loudly on the first weekend of Pentecost.

The measure was carried out in consultation with the respective owners of the property in order to prevent further contamination.

"As a community, we blocked off a private path to protect property and avoid contamination," Häckel told

The politician complains about further problems with the tourists and has therefore already informed the police committee of the North Friesland district and the state government.

"However, the community of Sylt is dependent on the police to enforce regulatory measures," said the 48-year-old.

The field service of the public order office also supports the island with a security service, so the unusual visitors should be kept in check.

Other steps have also been taken in Westerland to protect the place from the high-risk tourists.

The water was drained from the Wilhelminen fountain before a site fence was erected around it.

The punks had previously used the fountain to cool the beer.

In view of the 9-euro monthly offer valid until August, it is not possible to say whether the rush will subside. Restaurateurs and tourism representatives are assuming the worst and fear that the party people will storm again at the weekend.
