The publicist Weimer triggered a lively debate with Markus Lanz with his statement on the Ukraine's lack of a chance in the war against Russia.
Hamburg – Once again Markus Lanz talked about the Ukraine conflict and its economic impact.
The program on Wednesday (June 22) focused specifically on energy supply in Germany after Economics Minister Robert Habeck declared the gas emergency plan on alert.
The group agreed that Germany is currently suffering from reduced gas supplies from Russia and has a supply problem.
Vladimir Putin started the gas war by "putting the guns on the table," said the publicist Wolfram Weimer, who then also commented on the situation in the Ukraine war:
Markus Lanz: Weimer's statement on Ukraine's lack of opportunities sparks a lively debate
“I am always on the side of realpolitik truth.
Ukraine will no longer win this war,” Weimer said.
He was in favor of conducting ceasefire negotiations as quickly as possible and "drawing the diplomatic card".
That got the round going.
The security expert Florence Gaub straddled in between.
The front line is shifting from day to day, although Russia is dominating “the dance”.
For Ukraine it is about turning this around, but it lacks artillery and air forces.
"To be honest, I find it cynical to say that the Ukrainians cannot win the war," Gaub said.
Recently, for example, Ukrainian soldiers have had to withdraw from the embattled city of Sievjerodonetsk.
Ukraine war topic for Markus Lanz: security expert compares peace offer with surrender
You have to say goodbye to the myth of just calling Putin to talk to him, said the political scientist.
Because what the Russian President is offering as a peace treaty is "not a negotiation, but a surrender."
The war in Ukraine could drag on for a long time since neither side achieved a breakthrough, Gaub explained.
Putin underestimated one point.
One goal of the Russian ruler was to sow discord among Ukraine's allies, but the enormous cohesion of the West surprised Putin.
"He didn't expect that," Gaub is sure.
