Before the eyes of horrified motorists, a 38-year-old parcel carrier from Mauern (Freising district) caused a serious accident on Thursday evening on the airport bypass, in which he and a 61-year-old from Moosinning suffered serious injuries.
Moosinning - The Erding police report that the driver of a VW Crafter drove on the FTO in the direction of Erding and overtook several vehicles between the Niederneuching and Moosinning/Erding-Süd junctions around 7 p.m. - according to witnesses, in a very risky manner.
When he suddenly saw the Moosinninger's BMW in front of him, the driver, who comes from Lithuania, steered to the left.
The BMW driver wanted to swerve to the right.
Both vehicles collided with the right fronts against each other.
The van went off the roadway and broke through the wildlife fence.
The BMW driver was trapped in the wreckage.
He had to be freed with heavy equipment.
The fire brigades from Moosinning, Finsing and Notzing arrived, as did the BRK rescue service from Erding, an emergency doctor from Freising and the Malteser from the airport.
The injuries to both drivers proved to be so severe that two rescue helicopters landed at the scene of the accident.
They flew the men to the clinics in Munich-Großhadern and Augsburg.
Both vehicles were totaled in the five-digit range.
The FTO was closed until late in the evening.
