So, the poachers organize themselves and establish networks tracked by the National Directorate of Intelligence and Customs Investigations (DNRED) which set up in 2020 a specialized contact group called "Sargasse".
During the 2022 fishing season, as part of Operation "Lake", coordinated by Europol, French investigators intercepted 254 kg of glass eels intended to be sent to China and then to Japan.
This makes France the second European state in terms of seizures.
