The HA Staff Front was registered with the Trade Union Registration Office on 4 December 2019. It is one of the new unions established during the anti-amendment turmoil.
When the union submitted its application to the Trade Union Registration Bureau, it had only 8 members, and since then the number of members has increased to more than 10,000.
In February 2020, at the beginning of the outbreak of the new crown epidemic in Hong Kong, the HA staff front launched a medical strike in Hong Kong, and put forward five demands, including requiring the government to completely shut down the customs.
At the time, 9,000 health care workers signed up to join the strike, which was later criticized and ended on February 7.
Former chairman Yu Huiming resigns after being arrested in 47 cases
Yu Huiming, the former chairman of the HA Staff Front, was charged with conspiracy to subvert state power for participating in the "35+ primary election". She was granted bail by the court in July 2021 and was accused of violating bail conditions in March this year. Bail leave was withdrawn by the court.
The HA Staff Front held a special general meeting today to discuss the direction of the organization.
