The Russian Foreign Ministry rejected the efforts of the European Union and the United States to hold Russia responsible for the disruption in grain supplies to world markets.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency as saying after today's meeting with the European Union Ambassador in Moscow Markus Ederer: The representative of the European Union was informed that the propaganda campaign to hold Russia responsible for the interruptions in the supply of grain and fertilizers to world markets conducted by the West is unacceptable.

During the meeting, the issue of food security was discussed, as the Russian side provided clarifications about the causes of problems in the food field, especially due to the coronavirus pandemic and the destruction of industrial and logistical links.

The meeting also dealt with the decisions of the European Union in the fields of economy, finance, energy and climate, and the repercussions of illegal European and American sanctions.

In turn, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev commented on German Foreign Minister Annalina Borbock's statement that Russia "is using hunger as a weapon" and said: It is surprising to hear this from officials whose country kept Leningrad in a siege for 900 days, where nearly 700,000 people died of starvation.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had confirmed that the world's food crisis occurred long before the start of the special military operation in Ukraine and was caused, among other things, by the coronavirus pandemic and the miscalculation of Western countries.
