The 85 graduates of the Freisinger Josef-Hofmiller-Gymnasium were ceremoniously said goodbye on Friday.

Special words were used throughout.

Freising

– The wish of upper school coordinator Bettina Lohs at the end of her touching speech on the awarding of the Abitur certificate at the Josef-Hofmiller-Gymnasium (JoHo) caused quite a few tears: “I wish that one day children’s feet will be tripping through the home that you are building and the walls shake with their laughter.

Because children are the best!”

85 young adults were released to “freedom” on Friday with their high school diplomas in hand.

For many, it was a farewell to a school where they spent the "best time" of their lives, as high school graduate Amelie Dörr put it in her graduation speech.

Again and again goosebump moments

The words to say goodbye to the JoHo-Absolvia 2022 were consistently special.

The most striking was Lohs' speech, which lasted more than 30 minutes and which - clearly touched by one of the best-performing cohorts at the school with an average of 2.13 - repeatedly caused goosebumps.

Through a lot of work and even more commitment, the students have become the master builders of their lives.

"Some of you have had tragedies that have almost reduced the whole work to rubble."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Nevertheless: “You bravely picked yourselves up and created something new out of the broken pieces.

I also express my great respect for that.” Despite all the adversities caused by the corona pandemic, the Absolvia have achieved great things and have grown into “smart, critically thinking young people who live an appreciative coexistence”.

Bettina Loh's final concern: "Be full of self-confidence, but not arrogant.

Powerful but not reckless.”

"Use all the chances that life will offer you with a clear mind and courage." Headmaster Susanna Räde gave the young people that to take with them.

According to Räde, one important task is to protect and use freedom - and with this freedom to protect democracy from damage.

For Räde a current, very special freedom: "Thank God there is no longer any sign of state-ordered contact bans, mask and test requirements." What the headmistress wished for the high school graduates: "Find deep friendships, at least one great love, professional success, contentment and happiness.

And please never lose the inner freedom to shape life as you see fit.”

Heart palpitations then and now

"We got the best out of it," summed up Amelie Dörr, representing the high school graduates.

Although many memories such as school trips have been missed due to the pandemic.

Nevertheless, the year was a very special one and experiences like the Antenne Bayern schoolyard concert were unforgettable.

"When we had our taster day here, we all had palpitations - and today it's the same again," Dörr concluded her moving speech.

The words of high school graduate Benjamin Schiebel, who dared to look back in the best Lenny Bruce manner, were also moving, albeit a little different.

“Troublemakers became well-mannered here at times,” said Schiebel.

"Today we are no less than the future elite of this country." With a wink and a pronounced talent for satire, he imitated teachers and chatted about the secrets of his school days.

In the end, however, he too became quiet: "Thank you mom and thank you dad - without you we wouldn't have passed the Abitur."
