US President Joe Biden today (Saturday) signed a bipartisan law on weapons reform.

The law allows various countries to ban the sale of weapons to citizens who pose a danger to themselves and others, and prevents the sale of weapons to those convicted of abusing unmarried spouses.

Previously, the law included only married couples.

It does not prevent the sale of assault rifles and cartridges with a high bullet content.

This is the first federal reform in the field in the last 30 years.

"This is a historic day," Biden said at the White House when he signed the law.

"With God's help, it will save the lives of many people."

"Today we did something."

The law was signed just two days after the Supreme Court extended the rights to carry weapons.

Arms control is a controversial issue that has been at the center of public interest in recent weeks, following the school massacre in Texas and other high-profile shootings that followed.

The new reform allows, for the first time, access to information about serious crimes committed by minors.

In addition, the law will transfer funding to countries that will implement "red flag" laws to locate residents who pose a danger.

The law will also pass a $ 15 billion budget for mental health assistance programs and upgrading school security.

In transferring an installation against abusive spouses who are not legally married to the object of the abuse, the law closed what was called the "boyfriend's loophole."

At the time of signing, President Biden said he would hold an event next month for victims of gun use, on the occasion of the signing of the law.

"Their message to us was 'do something' - and today we did something," Biden said.

The gun law was passed in Congress yesterday, thanks to the joining of 14 Republican lawmakers to the Democratic majority.

234 members of Congress voted in favor of the law, and 193 voted against.

On Thursday, the law was also passed in the Senate, with the support of 15 Republican senators.

At the time of signing, Biden referred to the Supreme Court's position on the matter, and in general to the conduct of the body, which overturned the precedent ruling on the right to abortion.

"Is the Supreme Court devastated? Between the trials it has made some terrible decisions," Biden said.
