The area of cultivated and implemented lands in the Quneitra governorate of summer crops and vegetables for the current agricultural season amounted to 2409 hectares, of which 1773 hectares were for vegetables and 636 hectares for fodder crops.
The Director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Quneitra, Engineer Ahmed Deeb, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the increase in the area planted with vegetables and summer crops is due to the farmers’ desire to invest in these crops due to the availability of irrigation water sources from surface dams, wells and springs, and the provision of agricultural production requirements, in addition to the farmers’ search for fodder alternatives for livestock Through the demand for the cultivation of the yellow and white corn crop.
The Director of Agriculture pointed to the expansion of the cultivation of summer vegetables of okra, eggplant, tomatoes, cucumbers, molokhia, cowpeas, beans, sesame, tobacco and watermelon.
