Israeli David Ashkenazi was arrested on Tuesday in Greece following a red message from Interpol, at the request of Peru.

The Peruvian Ministry of Justice has asked Interpol to help locate an international drug dealer, in order to prosecute him for an offense, which carries a maximum sentence of about 35 years in prison.

Ashkenazi, who came to the Greek island of Kos for a vacation with his wife, must now prove in Greece that he is not the man Peru is asking for.

His relatives and associates strongly claim that he has nothing to do with this matter and that it is a mistake.

It was learned that the incident at the center of the international affair took place in the city of Lima, the capital of Peru, on June 16, 2012. The man wanted by the Peruvians and known as "El Doc" (in Spanish, "Doctor") holds dual Azerbaijani-Israeli citizenship.

The same suspect, they claim, is a member of an international criminal organization that smuggled drugs from Peru to Russia, by air.

Somehow, Peru handles this affair on the vehicle appraiser Dudi Ashkenazi from Bat Hefer in the Hefer Valley,

The undercover Peruvian policeman, Abdul Linars Perez, set up a meeting with al-Duk, where he introduced him to a woman known only by her first name, "Nikita."

At the meeting, which took place at a restaurant in the prestigious shopping center "Jockey Plaza" in Lima, it was agreed that the two would meet Nikita again later that evening at a gas station in the Mirasol area.

According to Peruvian authorities, at the same meeting at the gas station at 9 p.m., Al-Dok handed the agent four "whites" that contained pure cocaine.

Weighing in the laboratory, it turns out that their total weight is 4,220 kg. Nikita was responsible for transporting the drugs to Moscow to other members of the organization. For this night meeting.

The Israeli Dudi Ashkenazi, who was arrested upon landing on the Greek island of Kos, and who hardly knows the details of the affair in which involvement is attributed to him, claims from the first moment that it is most likely an identity theft.

This morning Ashkenazi was transferred by ferry from the island of Kos to the island of Rhodes, his wife Racheli arrived separately on the same ferry.

In Rhodes, attorneys Sunny Shakis and Valery Nachmias, who have represented him so far, have been waiting for them since yesterday.

Advocate Nir Jaslowitz

, who was represented on Friday, will appeal his detention on Monday in a court in Rhodes.

I had also been to South America years before. The lawyer also claimed that Ashkenazi had never been to Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Ashkenazi was transferred to Rhodes on a ferry, a cruise of about an hour, with the handcuffs on his hands allowed by the police to hide in a towel.

He had already spent Saturday night in a detention center in Rhodes, not far from the courthouse.

In the evening his wife was allowed to visit him there for about an hour.

"He is suffering greatly, really dismembered and very scared," his wife Racheli told Walla! "And we are already waiting to prove his innocence with all the data we have and we have all the legal evidence to show that all the allegations against him are based on completely wrong facts. Not even one thing is true. Not the dates, not the places. Not the citizenship. Nothing."

Advocate Mordechai Tzivin, the international expert on Interpol affairs and arrests between countries, expressed optimism and told Walla! That “in light of the special circumstances of the case, the defense will not have to bother much to revoke the order.

I have no doubt that Ashkenazi will not be extradited to Peru, although in Interpol cases, the courts do not hear the case on its own merits, guilty or not, nor the weight of the evidence.

All this except in the case where there is, categorically, no evidence to support the extradition request.

"Ashkenazi's case is like this, the reliance on the forged Azeri passport and the Israeli passport completely omits, even ostensibly, the basis for the extradition request and I am sure that the court in Greece will not grant the extradition request."
