Another German vacationer drowned in Mallorca.

There have been a number of such accidents in recent weeks.

Palma – Another tragic accident has happened in the holiday paradise of Mallorca.

A German vacationer drowned on Friday afternoon.

Worryingly, this is by no means the first such death this season.

German holidaymaker drowned in Mallorca: Palmira beach very popular with tourists

According to the regional

newspaper Diario de Mallorca

and other media, the pensioner died on Friday afternoon in front of Peguera, a city in the southwest of the Spanish Mediterranean island, which is very popular in this country every summer.

The German citizenship of the man, who is said to have been born in 1940, was subsequently confirmed to the German Press Agency by the local police.

According to media reports, the vacationer was staying with his wife and daughter on the beach in Palmira, a popular tourist destination about 25 kilometers west of Palma, before his death.

However, around 4 p.m. he is said to have been found floating unconscious in the water by lifeguards.

He was brought ashore, but attempts to revive him failed.

German vacationer drowned in Mallorca: deaths are piling up on vacation island

Alarming: Recently, deaths on the Spanish holiday island have been increasing.

The injured pensioner is already the second German bathing death in Mallorca within a week.

On Monday, another elderly man was killed off the coast of Santa Ponça in the south-west of the island and last Friday a similar accident happened off the coast of Formentera, in which a 71-year-old drowned.

In the weeks before, there were said to have been a number of deaths on the bustling beaches of the Balearic Islands, which, in addition to Mallorca, also include Menorca, Cabrera, Ibiza and Formentera.

As the

Mallorca newspaper

informs, this season there should have been significantly more rescues of bathers.

The lifeguards demonstrated on Mallorca on Friday to draw attention to the seriousness of the situation.

In addition to symbolic body bags and wooden crosses, posters bearing messages such as "Extension of service - too many dead outside of working hours" called for more money, more colleagues and also an extension of beach supervision.

And rightly so.

After all, the number of visitors to Mallorca in the hot season is only likely to increase.

And in order for the hugely popular holiday destination to remain a safe haven of sunshine and relaxation, something has to change.

Those planning to holiday in Mallorca this summer may have to brace themselves for the flight being cancelled.
