The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, quoted the words "I have no other country" written by Israeli songwriter Ehud Manor yesterday (Friday), referring to the US Supreme Court's decision to repeal the constitutional right of women to abortion.
"I tend to quote this song from time to time," Pelosi said at the beginning of her remarks, noting that she was shocked by the state Supreme Court decision.
She quoted the lyrics and at the end said she hoped the court would "open its eyes".
She also said that she met Manor's wife when she visited Israel.
This is not the first time Pelosi has mentioned Manor's lyrics.
In January 2021, Pelosi quoted him in an attempt to persuade her Republican colleagues in Congress to vote in favor of ousting former U.S. President Donald Trump, following his alleged contribution to the violent Capitol events earlier that month.
