The "belly" of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) is dreaming of a giant and ecological logistics platform.

Founded fifty years ago in the northern districts, the Market of National Interest (MIN) is, after that of Rungis (Val-de-Marne), the largest agri-food market in France where more than 580,000 tons are traded. of fresh produce per year.

Its president, Christian Burle, and its director, Marc Dufour, want to take advantage of this space to create Minopolis, the first French eco-responsible logistics project in the heart of the city, by 2027.

For 450 million works, it will be a question of pouring a slab of 12 ha above the MIN and creating warehouses there for the delivery of the last kilometers in non-polluting, electric or hydrogen vehicles.

"Save 150 hours of traffic jams per year for each Marseillais"

“We are ideally placed between the A 7 motorway towards Lyon and the L 2 ring road towards the Var and Italy, sums up Marc Dufour.

Trucks will thus be able to deliver Marseille without entering the center.

According to our calculations, this will reduce traffic in the city by 23%, save 150 hours of traffic jams per year for each Marseillais and reduce the rate of fine particles linked to diesel by 76%.

The roof will be covered with solar panels, making the MIN, which consumes a lot for its fridges, self-sufficient in energy with what promises to be the largest photovoltaic power plant in France.

Two investment funds have already positioned themselves to finance the project, and groups such as the Post Office or Amazon have shown interest.

"We are at the dawn of a revolution in logistics", confirms Franck Sammut, regional director of DPD, the parcel delivery subsidiary of the Post Office which has already installed a delivery site since September.

“What the Marseille MIN wants to do will be copied everywhere.
