Queen Elizabeth II looks different in the latest photos.
It quickly becomes clear: It's the hair.
The Regent has bid farewell to one of her trademarks and is sporting a significantly shorter hairstyle.
London – Since the brilliant jubilee weekend, Buckingham Palace has published two new posts showing Queen Elizabeth II in audiences.
On both, one detail of the queen's styling immediately catches the eye: she has said goodbye to her trademark and is sporting a summery haircut.
Queen Elizabeth II Surprised With New Hairstyle After Platinum Jubilee
Both the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby (66), and Margaret Beazley (79), the governor of New South Wales, must have been amazed when the monarch faced them in a fresh look at their respective audiences at Windsor Castle.
But it wasn't just the regent's hair that was trimmed for the occasion, the 96-year-old was also out and about without a walking stick.
The British monarch has worn her hair in a uniform hairstyle for decades, which has become a real distinguishing feature.
The Queen's longer hair was last seen on June 2 when she appeared without her signature wide-brimmed hat for the beacon-lighting ceremony at the start of the four-day anniversary celebrations.
The new look could be credited to Queen confidante Angela Kelly
Who is most familiar with Her Majesty's hair is her close adviser to Queen Elizabeth, Angela Kelly (64), who recently published her bestselling book The Other Side Of The Coin: The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe hairdresser and the cloakroom).
In it, she recounts life with the Regent during the coronavirus pandemic, including her job of doing her hair.
In a People interview, Kelly admits she was nervous at first.
"I was shaking for the first two weeks," she says.
"I had only done her hair once or twice before while she was on board the Royal Yacht Britannia.
The Queen was kind enough to tell me the best way to use the curlers.
