The Rennes prosecutor's office announced on Saturday June 25 that it had opened an investigation for attempted murder after police officers were targeted by a burst of automatic weapon fire on Friday in Rennes.
The facts occurred around 5 p.m. in the Maurepas district.

The police were patrolling near a narcotics resale point when "
an automatic burst was fired in their direction
", Rennes public prosecutor Philippe Astruc told AFP.
A scooter had just traveled at high speed towards the resale point "
possibly in pursuit of two lookouts
" and "
the passenger equipped with an automatic pistol aimed at the lookouts and fired shots in their direction
" before dashing .

Investigation opened for attempted murder of persons holding public authority
If no injuries are to be deplored, the prosecutor indicates that a criminal investigation has been opened by the prosecution and entrusted to the DTPJ (territorial direction of the judicial police) "
under the qualification of attempted murder and attempted murder of persons holding of public authority
”.
According to Philippe Astruc, this last qualification incurs life imprisonment.
On the spot "
eleven 9 mm caliber casings
" were found on the ground and "
two other casings
" were discovered on the adjacent streets.
Traces of gunfire were also found on two parked vehicles.

Referring to "
particularly serious facts
" which "
are part of a series of facts

very strong tension
", the magistrate announced the establishment of a unit of 12 DTPJ investigators specially dedicated to the neighborhood location.
According to the prosecutor, the investigation will have to determine in particular “
whether or not these latest facts are linked to a voluntary homicide
” committed in Maurepas on June 13 for which a man is in detention.
