The left is in favor of a drastic tightening of the climate target: According to the party, Germany should already be climate-neutral by 2035, i.e. not blowing any additional greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
This was decided by the federal party conference in Erfurt on Saturday.
So far, the goal of the federal government is to make Germany climate-neutral by 2045.
Erfurt - "We have to be climate-neutral by 2035 at the latest in order to avert the climate catastrophe after all," says the main motion of the Left Board.
A request to remove this target was rejected.
Delegates also reaffirmed the goal - to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
A 100% renewable energy supply by 2035 is feasible.
The largest investment program in the history of the Federal Republic is necessary for this.
The left advocates making 20 billion euros available annually for the energy transition alone.
Around 570 delegates have been meeting in the Thuringian state capital since Friday and until Sunday.
The most important point of the federal party conference is the election of a new party leadership, which is expected for Saturday afternoon.
