The US Supreme Court overturns a ruling on abortion rights.

A first state announces the ban.

Ex-President Trump praises the decision and himself.

Update from June 24, 9:12 p.m .:

The Supreme Court has decided against the liberal abortion law in the USA.

Ex-President Donald Trump praised the Supreme Court decision as a "win for life".

Trump found that this was only possible because he appointed three conservative judges to the Supreme Court during his tenure.

"It was my great honor to do this," he wrote in a statement.

In contrast, US President Joe Biden called the verdict a "tragic mistake" and spoke of "a sad day for the Supreme Court and the country".

During his time as US President, Trump appointed three judges, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett.

In doing so, he clearly shifted the majority in the nine-member court to the right: to six of the nine seats.

The Supreme Court overturned the country's liberal abortion law in a landmark decision on Friday.

The Supreme Court thus cleared the way for stricter abortion laws - up to and including complete bans in some US states.

USA: Supreme Court overturns right to abortion - states decide on individual regulations

First announcement from June 24th:

Washington DC - Historic decision in the USA: The Supreme Court has overturned the nationwide right to abortion, which had previously existed for around five decades.

The Supreme Court, in which the majority of judges sit, on Friday (June 24) overturned the landmark decision “Roe v.

Wade” from 1973.

As a result of this decision, abortions are not illegal in the United States of America.

However, from now on, the individual states can freely decide whether to allow abortions, allow them to be restricted, or ban them altogether.

In recent weeks, there have been heated discussions across the country about the right to abortion.

The US magazine

Politico

had previously published a draft judgment of the Supreme Court.

This led to nationwide protests, but many opponents of abortion also demonstrated.

The legislation on the subject had not previously been clarified uniformly in the USA.

On the one hand, there was no national law that would allow or prohibit US citizens from having an abortion.

On the other hand, women were allowed to have abortions at least until the fetus was viable (24 weeks of pregnancy).

US: Supreme Court paves way for abortion ban

This right was based on a 1973 judgment, better known as Roe v.

Calf".

An additional judgment from 1992 (“Planned Parenthood v. Casey”) strengthened the corresponding case law.

Now the mostly conservative Supreme Court has reversed this ruling.

In doing so, he cleared the way for stricter abortion laws.

A ban on abortion could now be introduced, especially in some Republican-governed US states.
