The Vatican has praised the Supreme Court’s decision on the historic abortion verdict.

The Vatican authority "Academy for Life" published a statement calling for reflection.

Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, who heads the papal Academy for Life, said the court's decision was a "powerful invitation to reflect" on the issue at a time when Western society is "losing passion for life."

"If we choose to live, our responsibility for the future of humanity is at stake," Paglia said.

This is reported by the Reuters news agency.

US President Joe Biden, who is a Catholic himself, called the Supreme Court's decision a "tragic mistake".

The Catholic Church equates abortion with murder.

Pope Francis has already compared abortion to hiring a “hit man” to get rid of a problematic person.

Update from Saturday, June 25, 8:00 a.m .:

The extensive ban on abortion has already come into force in several US states.

Arkansas, Louisiana and Kentucky are just a few examples.

The ban, based on the Supreme Court's historic decision, also covers rape or incest.

There are very few exceptions, including medical emergencies.

The New York Times reports that around seven million women of childbearing age are affected.

Former US President Donald Trump celebrated the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the nationwide right to abortion as a decision from God.

"God decided that," the 76-year-old told Fox News on Friday.

The step is in line with the constitution and should have happened "a long time ago".

USA: Missouri becomes the first US state to ban abortion

+++ 19.00:

Missouri was the first US state to ban abortions.

"Missouri just became the first in the country to effectively end abortion," Midwest Attorney General Eric Schmitt said on Twitter on Friday.

Democratic states like California and New York want to preserve the right to abortion.

In some, clinics are preparing for a rush from outside.

Meanwhile, the son of ex-President Donald Trump has celebrated the Supreme Court decision as his father's victory.

"Proud of my dad for what he accomplished today," Donald Trump Junior wrote on Twitter on Friday.

His father appointed three Supreme Court justices for "our movement" who oppose liberal abortion rules.

The conservative Texas governor Greg Abbott also welcomed the verdict: Texas is a state that protects unborn life.

US Supreme Court overturns liberal abortion law

First Announcement:

Washington, DC - The US Supreme Court has overturned the country's liberal abortion law in a landmark decision.

The mostly right-wing conservative Supreme Court in Washington cleared the way for stricter abortion laws on Friday - up to and including complete bans in individual US states.

With that, the current abortion rights in the United States are history after almost half a century.

The verdict stated that “the constitution does not grant a right to an abortion”.

The decision comes as no surprise: at the beginning of May, the

Politico

magazine published a draft.

It was already clear from this that the court intends to decide in this way.

There was an outcry from women's rights organizations, clinics and liberals.

The verdict is now as drastic as expected.

There are likely to be extensive restrictions in about half of the states.

USA: Conservative judges prevail and overturn liberal abortion law

There is no federal law in the United States that allows or prohibits abortion.

However, abortions are permitted at least until the fetus is viable - today around the 24th week.

This has so far been ensured by a 1973 ruling by the US Supreme Court, known as Roe v.

Wade is known.

Another 1992 ruling, Planned Parenthood v.

Casey, reinforced the jurisprudence and adjusted it somewhat.

The Supreme Court has now overturned these decisions.

Abortion rights have been the subject of heated debates in the United States.

Opponents have been trying to overturn the liberal rules for decades.

Under the previous President Donald Trump, the Supreme Court moved significantly to the right.

The Republican appointed Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett during his tenure.

Liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan and Justice Stephen Breyer voted against the decision.
