The Hallertau Beer Festival could not have gone better: 48 breweries, 130 types of beer and 23 bands made for “a festival of superlatives” in Attenkirchen.

Attenkirchen

- It was "a festival of superlatives".

And if the patron says so, then it must be true.

District Administrator Helmut Petz opened the 6th Hallertau Beer Festival on Friday.

Until Sunday, 48 breweries served 130 types of beer in the Attenkirchen village center and 23 bands played on three stages.

Just a few figures from the event, which, according to Mayor Mathias Kern, is "the largest non-commercial beer tasting event in the world".

Anyone who experienced the three days will not disagree with all of this.

The almost global importance of the beer festival was also shown by the guest list at the opening on Friday evening: the district administrator and one of his deputies came, members of the state parliament, a large number of mayors (including those not from the Hallertau) and other dignitaries took their places at the front tables The Hallertau Hop Queen provided aristocratic splendor and Pastor Stephan Rauscher provided heavenly support.

The Biersee was smaller than the Schliersee

And then there was Markus Wasmeier, the "Wasi", the double Olympic champion from Lillehammer in 1994, who was one of 48 vendors offering his historic draft beer for sale.

Wasmeier comes from the Schliersee, luckily on Friday when District Administrator Petz tapped the first keg, he was not able to experience a "beer lake as big as the Schliersee", as Franzl Lang had wished for in 1970.

Petz needed five hits - and then it spattered a bit - but then the change, the beer festival, that "figurehead for the whole Holledau", so Petz, nothing stood in the way.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.

Willi Abele composed the festival anthem

But not only the tapping by Petz was a premiere, the next world premiere followed immediately afterwards: the Hallertau beer festival song composed by Willi Abele, performed with squeezing and four-part singing, accompanied by an extremely sophisticated choreography of the six ladies wearing dirndls and in the refrain ideal for singing along.

"First I look, then I smell, then I taste, then I swallow and I feel something in me..." So two world premieres - and then the beer festival took its usual, proven and apparently already world-famous course, including a sophisticated concept: buy a glass, beer brands – and off we go with the beery round trip.

In addition, lots of delicacies, also at a stand run by the Freising Refugee Aid, where Ukrainian specialties were offered.

Also: music on three stages.

From brass band music to mood music and Latin American rock to funk, soul and house from the DJ.

And so the Wolfersdorfer Goasslschnalzer cracked their whips over the heads of the guests, while "Guantanamera" rang out from the loudspeakers, lederhosen and dirndls were just as popular with the visitors as jeans, leather jackets and T-shirts with the inscription "Wish you were Beer".

It was a long way to the "ProBierpaket"

In view of the rush, you certainly needed a bit of patience until you had organized the "ProBierpaket" or the "Biertaler Start-Set" in order to be able to enjoy the festival, the types of beer, the music and the atmosphere to the fullest.

On Sunday, the festive church service and the performance of "Bavaria's largest wind orchestra" in the parish garden followed - and that was a beery weekend that you won't soon forget.
