Recycled clothing from vintage items, socks bags and ecological swimwear • Shir Levy turns its online brand into a store that will be open for a week only

The chain's star Shir Levy (25), who is also the wife of Neta Lavie, captain of Maccabi Haifa, is opening a pop-up store for her fashion brand, Refuture, for the first time, and it will be sold for a week from today (Sunday) at the Ofer Mall in Ramat Aviv.

The brand, which is associated with the sustainability agenda, has so far only sold items online.

The uniqueness of his clothes is that they are made from existing clothes from surplus goods, vintage items or defective items redesigned using ecological methods, and they are made by hand only.

"We go through stores, buy defective products and unsold items, and from them we create a new garment," says Levy, "thus extending the life of an item that existed in the world. For example, jeans bags that we create from second-hand jeans - of course after That we remove stains, cuts and repairs. "

We would have thought that sustainability items would cost less, but here that is not the case.

"We buy the items, it's not something we collected from the garbage. In some cases it is also about brands. In addition, the whole process is done by hand, and is long, expensive and difficult."

How did you even come up with this idea of a clothing cycle?

"I used to work for a cheap fast fashion company, and I had a lot of clothes in the closet - also as an influencer on Instagram. "I have to cut back, and I also wanted clothes that not everyone has. I started playing with the things I had in the closet and realized that I have something here that I like to do, a combination of love for the environment and fashion."

To what extent do the items arrive?

"In pop-ups they are from extra small to large. At the beginning of the business I really wanted the clothes to be in all sizes, but the large sizes still exist on my website and are not sold. But in swimwear, for example, when I saw last year that Swimwear also in extra large sizes. "

What exactly is the technique used to make swimwear?

"All the clothes are made in Israel, but I make the swimwear in Bali - they are also handmade. They take fishing nets that have polluted the sea and been collected from it, and the net goes through a process and becomes a plastic fiber in the swimsuit.

Following the new pregnancy, did you think of making clothes for the mothers on the way?

"Everything happened to me so fast with the pregnancy - until my stomach came out I did not know how to deal with it, what I would need and what not. Hopefully in the next pregnancy I will know what it requires, I did not know it enough to plan the models in advance."

Swimwear from recycled fishing chains will start at NIS 399, bags made of socks at prices starting at NIS 250, jerseys starting at NIS 250, jeans starting at NIS 450, hats starting at NIS 150 and more.
