Bono, lead singer of the successful U-2 band, recently revealed in an interview with the BBC's Desert Island Discs radio program that in 2000 he revealed that he had a secret brother (in addition to his older brother Norman), the product of an affair run by his father.
"I love and adore him," the successful 62-year-old Irish singer revealed about the brother he did not know existed until two decades ago.
"I did not know about its existence or maybe actually did," he said.
"It was clear that my father had been through a lot, but his head was somewhere else because his heart was somewhere else. It seems to me that as a child I felt this problem," he said.
He added that while he was married to his mother and lived in their house, his father had an affair with "an amazing woman", he said, and from this affair his brother was born, a son whose son Bono did not know existed until she died when the successful singer was 14. "It was a very close family and I could "To feel that my father had a very deep friendship with this amazing woman who was part of the family and then when a child was born to them everything was kept secret. I asked him if he loved my mother," he added, recounting the moment he revealed to his father the revelation of that secret brother.
"And he replied in the affirmative. I asked him how it could happen and he just replied 'it can' and that he was trying to do the right thing," he said.
Bono added that although he admitted to having an affair and gave birth to a child out of wedlock, his father, who died in 2001, did not apologize for it.
"He did not apologize, just admitted the facts," he said, adding that he came to terms with the situation and lived with the news in peace.

He further added that after the death of his father with whom he had a complex and often charged relationship over the years, he apologized for not supporting him enough especially in the difficult years after his mother died.
"I went to a small church in France. There was no one there," he said.
"I lit a candle, got down on my knees and apologized for not being there for him when he went through so much. I felt free."
