Brussels, SANA- A report issued by the Council of Europe group revealed that the Turkish judiciary is now less independent than it used to be

Brussels-Sana

A report issued by the Council of Europe group revealed that the Turkish judiciary is less independent now than it was in the past, and that not enough measures have been taken to curb corruption in it.

"The continued lack of independence of the judiciary, the lack of progress in the fight against corruption, and the low level of compliance with the recommendations shown by Turkey were unsatisfactory in the world," the report published by the Turkish newspaper Zaman said.

The Council of Europe group called on the Turkish government to increase transparency, adhere to ethical standards and conduct the necessary investigations in relation to corruption cases.

The group recommended that resolute measures be taken to enhance the independence of the Supreme Council of Judges and Public Prosecutors and take the necessary measures with regard to potential threats that may affect the independence of the judiciary from the executive authorities and political influence.

The report clarified the situation in which the Turkish judiciary has fallen in recent years, as it has become a mere political tool to crack down on opponents of the current government's policy or those who dare to criticize the President of the Turkish regime, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
