Update from June 25, 2:55 p.m .:

The Bavarian police checked the access roads near Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 20 places because of the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau.

The checkpoints and the blocking of driveways on the B2 and Autobahn 95 have caused some G7 turmoil in the past few days.

"There were a relatively large number of questions about this," confirms Kerstin Schaller, the operations manager responsible for route monitoring and traffic management.

However, the officials should proceed with sensitivity during the controls, the clear message was: "We want to block the locals as little as possible."

So far, there have been no special incidents at the checkpoints.

But none of that helps.

The main route must remain free.

For locals, commuters, but of course also holiday guests, who actually still exist in the region.

Before the G7 summit in Elmau: alternative summit in Munich criticizes the “wealth of the G7 nations”

Update from June 24, 10:05 p.m .:

While the heads of state and government of the G7 countries are preparing for their meeting at Schloss Elmau, critics met at an alternative summit in Munich.

There, the seven leading Western economies were accused of shared responsibility for global crises and injustice.

The wealth of the G7 nations is based on the exploitation of the Global South, said the political officer of the alliance erlassjahr.de, Malina Stutz: "We don't want to continue to accept that." The alliance is committed to independent insolvency proceedings for over-indebted states.

"Progress for a just world" is the alleged goal of the G7 summit, the organizers of the event announced in advance.

The participating states would often block necessary reforms "for national and economic power interests".

"You could do it all differently," said Julia Thrul from Oxfam Germany. "You just have to have the courage to imagine it." Among other things, the organization is demanding a special tax to combat inequality.

Update from June 24, 8:10 p.m .:

The free voters in Garmisch-Partenkirchen also voiced strong criticism of the G7 summit.

They demand a resolution so that such a meeting with all the trimmings does not happen again in the district.

Update from June 24, 7 p.m.:

The security area around the G7 conference venue Schloss Elmau is actually reserved for only a small circle of two-legged friends.

However, an exception has now been made for around 130 cows.

Under police protection, they were herded across the heavily guarded area to their pasture.

The animals had to cross the temporary helipad paved especially for the summit, where the state guests are supposed to land - this is usually a hikers' car park.

The legacies of the cows were immediately removed, reported a police spokesman.

"A sweeper was called in to put the place back in good condition." The animals were accompanied on the way to the Wettersteinalm by numerous drivers from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area.

The police officers present opened the fence that was erected around the castle to allow the cows to pass.

Normally, since Sunday, only those who have accreditation may enter the four square kilometer security area around the conference venue.

A few hundred sheep have to graze in the valley first.

The lift originally planned for the summit weekend was postponed to the following weekend in a joint meeting between the police and the Partenkirchen pasture cooperative because of the G7 operation, the police said on request.

The buoyancy is generally carried out on weekends, since the buoyancy helpers work in their free time.

Update from June 24, 6 p.m.:

Storms are forecast for the days of the G7 summit.

There is a risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail.

That could complicate the arrival of the politicians and also life in the protest camp.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: fuss about demo at the castle - discussions are ongoing

What is still unclear for the critics of the summit, however, is whether a demonstration near the conference venue Schloss Elmau will be approved.

"Being shuttled there with police buses has nothing to do with the right to assembly," Runte criticized a proposal currently under discussion.

At least you want to go there in your own bus.

The police said that coordination between the applicants and the authorities was still ongoing.

According to the district office, around 25 events in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area have been registered around the summit.

Of these, almost ten had been approved by Thursday.

Not a good move from an environmental point of view.
