A protest action at the ski jump in Garmisch-Partenkirchen demands concrete measures from the G7 participants.

At the last summit, expectations were disappointed.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen - The G7 summit in Elmau 2022 will take place in Germany from June 26th to 28th. The G7 agenda includes important topics such as man-made climate change, the corona crisis, the Ukraine war and global food security.

Chancellor Scholz tried to dampen expectations in advance and found unusually poetic words.

According to the Chancellor, no mountains will be moved at the G7 summit in the Bavarian mountains.

A protest action at the ski jump in Garmisch-Partenkirchen also tried a play on words.

On the eve of the first day of the G7 summit in Germany, a special protest action began around 10 p.m. in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Activists projected the portraits of the seven heads of state and government onto the large Olympic ski jump.

Underneath it read: "Corona, climate, hunger - G7, can you make the jump?" There were translations into English and French.

The organization "One", originally founded by U2 singer Bono, is behind the action at the ski jump.

According to its own press release, the international movement is committed to “ending extreme poverty and avoidable diseases by 2030”.

"So that every human being can live a life of dignity and full of opportunities."

“What we mean to say is that we really count on the leaders to decide on concrete measures and not just to find warm words to lead us all, to lead the world out of these crises.

In order to make the jump out of the crises," said Stephan Exo-Kreischer, the organizer of One-Germany, on Saturday to the "heute journal" on ZDF.

One had already drawn attention to this with a protest at the last G7 summit in Elmau in 2015.

The organizers released balloons with the likeness of Merkel, Obama and Co. and demanded: "G7 - We want more than just hot air."

The One director Exo-Kreischer is also calling for concrete measures because he is critical of the promises made by the G7.

“The G7 have a credibility problem.

Every year, a rich country hosts a high-security summit marked by lofty goals and big promises.

When in doubt, very few follow what becomes of these promises in the end.

That is the decisive factor, ”says a press release from the movement on Friday.

At the last German G7 summit at Schloss Elmau, the heads of state and government promised to free 500 million people from chronic hunger by 2030, the organization recalls.

"Today, seven years later, an additional 153 million people are malnourished." This does not take into account the increase in grain prices caused by Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine.

In addition, due to the corona pandemic, global life expectancy has fallen for the first time in 70 years.

Not only One warns of this, but also the World Health Organization WHO.

One reason for this is the unequal distribution of vaccines around the world - in favor of rich countries.

According to a study, 600,000 people died in vain because of this.

The run-up is important for ski jumpers - but in the end it's how far you jump that counts.

So it remains to be seen which concrete measures the seven G7 summit participants will be able to agree on at this year's meeting in Elmau.
