Following the official welcome, the first working meeting of the G7 heads of state has now begun.

Olaf Scholz and his wife Britta Ernst now welcome the participants of the G7 summit on the red carpet in front of Elmau Castle.
The Chancellor greets the other heads of state and government individually and exchanges a few words with each one, then there is a photo.
During the press photo, US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron were asked by a journalist what they thought of Russia's renewed missile attack on Kyiv.
Neither of them responded.

At 12 p.m. Chancellor Scholz wanted to welcome the participants of the G7 summit in Elmau.
That will probably be delayed - the heads of government are currently going with their partners to the conference venue at Schloss Elmau.
US President Biden and Scholz have also ended their one-to-one talks and are now meeting the other heads of state with their partners.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has praised Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s (SPD) actions against Russia in the Ukraine war.
"I would never have believed in my life that a German chancellor would be so committed," said Johnson before the start of the G7 summit in Elmau.
Scholz sent weapons to the Ukrainians and took a hard line with Moscow despite Germany's heavy reliance on Russian gas.

Germany now faces "real pressure" and needs to get its gas from other sources, Johnson said.
"But they do.
You make an effort.
They make the sacrifice (...) because they realize that the price of freedom is worth paying.”
At the same time, Johnson warned of a general "tiredness among the population and politicians" with regard to the Russia sanctions.
So far, however, the West has shown in the G7 and NATO that it is united.
"To maintain that unity, to implement it, we need really honest conversations about the implications of what's happening: the pressures that individual friends and partners and their populations are feeling - whether it's on the cost of energy or food."

The focus of the conversation between Scholz and Biden in the run-up to the G7 summit will be the Ukraine war, said a senior US government official.
The conversation should serve the "continued close coordination on the political and diplomatic front".
Topics are, for example, financial aid for Ukraine, further support for the country in the security sector and sanctions against Russia.
The meeting between Scholz and Biden should also serve to strengthen bilateral relations.
President Biden has "invested heavily in bilateral relations with Germany since taking office," the US official said.
"The President has established a very close and efficient working relationship with Chancellor Scholz."

Olaf Scholz is now meeting US President Joe Biden for a bilateral talk.
The news channel ntv broadcast the first images of the meeting of the two heads of state.
In front of the grandiose mountain backdrop near Schloss Elmau, the two greeted each other with a handshake and then admired the landscape together.

Journalists were allowed to be present at the first words of the two heads of state.
"There is a lot to do," said the US President as a preview of the G7 summit.
Biden thanked Scholz for his cooperation in the Ukraine war and emphasized the importance of continuing to stick together while giving Scholz a friendly arm squeeze.
Putin expected that the G7 and NATO would be split.
That has not happened and will not happen.
Scholz replied that it was "good news".
The further conversation between Biden and Scholz will take place confidentially without the participation of the press, a press conference afterwards is not planned.

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, has now arrived at Munich Airport and was welcomed by Florian Herrmann, head of the Bavarian State Chancellery.
Upon his arrival received a bouquet of flowers from a girl in costume.
Kishida also signed the golden book of the Bavarian state government.

US President Biden visited the fair at Schloss Elmau before the start of the G7 summit in Bavaria.
The White House said the priest was a US military chaplain.
Biden is a devout Catholic and goes to church regularly.
The 79-year-old arrived at Schloss Elmau on Sunday night.
At 10 a.m., Biden wanted to meet with Olaf Scholz for a bilateral meeting.

.: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Germany.
He was welcomed at Munich Airport by Bavarian Minister of State Florian Herrmann.
In addition to the G7 countries, Chancellor Scholz also invited the heads of government of India, Senegal, South Africa and Argentina.
India maintains close ties with Russia and has so far not distanced itself from Russian President Vladimir Putin over his war against Ukraine.

The first result of the G7 summit in Elmau has already leaked out: According to US President Joe Biden, the G7 countries want to announce an import ban on Russian gold at the G7 summit in Elmau.
Biden said on Twitter on Sunday that Russia would lose tens of billions of dollars in revenue from this important export commodity.
Biden wrote: "The United States has imposed unprecedented costs on Putin to deprive him of the revenue he needs to fund his war against Ukraine." would officially announce the import ban on Tuesday, the last day of the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau.

Great Britain, the USA, Japan and Canada impose a ban on the import of gold from Russia.
This was announced by the British government on Sunday before the start of the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau in Bavaria.
The reason is the Ukraine war.
At the meeting of major industrial powers, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to urge other countries to take the step to “further isolate Russia from the international financial system”.

The G7 summit of democratic economic powers begins on Sunday (12 p.m.) with consultations on the global economic situation and security policy, led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Before the opening session at Schloss Elmau, Scholz spoke to US President Joe Biden, who arrived at the conference venue that night.
It is Biden's first visit to Germany since he took office in early 2021.
Much of the summit will revolve around the Ukraine war and its aftermath.
The G7 countries are likely to again pledge support to the country attacked by Russia for as long as it is needed.
Concrete financial commitments are expected in the fight against famine, which is particularly prevalent in East Africa and is becoming even worse given the rising grain prices in the course of the war.
The high energy prices will also be an issue in Elmau, and of course climate protection.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: EU as observer and Zelenskyj as prominent guest
The European Union (EU) as an observer is represented by EU Council President Charles Michel and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
A prominent guest in the group is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The talks will focus on climate policy, combating the corona pandemic and strengthening international cooperation and democracy around the world.
So there is a lot to do for the decision makers.
G7 meeting in Germany: sanctions against Putin's Russia are already on the agenda on day one
The 48th summit of the most important industrialized nations in the West is of course taking place in the context of the war that Russia has been waging in Ukraine since February 24th.
Consequently, further sanctions against Vladimir Putin and his supporters are also being debated.
This is also on the agenda for the first day of the summit, as is the global economic situation, climate protection and foreign and security policy.
In order to strengthen democracies worldwide, Scholz has also invited five emerging countries from the south: India, Indonesia, South Africa, Senegal and Argentina.
This is intended to demonstrate that the SPD politician and the other G7 representatives are not just concentrating on the West and ignoring the rest of the world.
