The participants in the “Digital Transformation: Prospects and Challenges” workshop focused on the experience of Homs Governorate in the field of digital transformation and the strategic illumination of digital transformation in Syria.

The workshop, which was organized today by the province of Homs in cooperation with the Homs Chamber of Commerce and the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics at the Safir Hotel in Homs, focused on topics related to data centers, digital transformation, pioneering projects and policies consistent with the rapid growth of the digital economy and the difficulties that impede investment opportunities in digital transformation.

And the Governor of Homs, Eng. Bassam Parsik, said in a speech during the opening of the workshop that the governorate launched the information bank program in the field of digital transformation in order to achieve the goal and good planning at the administrative level and support the right and effective decision-making at the right time in order to develop skills and acquire knowledge and experience, especially in the technical field, which has expanded Its fields and ways are numerous, pointing out that the governorate also has several programs such as rural agricultural development, the Bread and Salt initiative, and others.

In his turn, Halim al-Akhras, the assistant president of the Chamber of Commerce, indicated in his speech that the workshop is a breakthrough for the digital transformation of various activities, including commercial ones that, after the war years, are looking for more feasible technical solutions to continue production and overcome all the difficulties imposed by the unjust economic siege on Syria, not to mention sales through electronic commerce. The Chamber of Commerce has several steps in this field, such as an electronic payment card and a site for submitting applications for employment services in the private sector.

Major General Osama Al-Saudi from Egypt, Secretary-General of the Arab Federation for E-Commerce, stressed in his speech that Syria provides great support for the digital transformation policy and joint Arab cooperation in this field, pointing out that the union is coordinating the process between Arab countries and transferring experiences between them.

For his part, Eng. Hassan Al-Najjar, President of the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics, presented during his participation in the workshop illuminations on the strategy of digital transformation in Syria, including e-government services, indicating that the implementation of the digital transformation project requires the concerted efforts of the public and private sectors and civil society.

During the workshop, Engineer Sawsan Al-Shaar, Director of the Information Bank and Director of Technology and Information in the governorate, reviewed Homs' experience in the field of digital transformation through horizontal expansion of citizen service centers, opening electronic service centers, and establishing a data bank center that includes a map of agricultural development and a platform for social affairs and work.

Eng. Louay Qazzaz, Project Manager for the Data Center, also pointed out during his participation the importance of the necessary funding for the project through real partnership between the public and private sectors and work to preserve human resources through incentives, rewards and compensation.

During his participation in the workshop, Dr. Mohamed Faroun, President of the Arab Federation for E-Commerce, gave a presentation on the data center and the experience of the Information Society in this regard, indicating that the center is equipped with monitoring systems and an access authority system and aims to create a work environment for everything related to digital transformation and government services.

The workshop was attended by directors of service departments in the governorate and a number of interested parties.
