Daraa-Sana
The Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor in Daraa, in cooperation with the Syrian Society for Social Development, honored today the athletes participating in the fifth local session of the Syrian Special Olympics.
The honoring included 23 players with disabilities in football, table tennis, bowling and bocce games, in addition to eight coaches, supervisors and escorts.
During the honoring ceremony, a film was shown about the activities and participation of the Daraa team in the successive sessions of the Special Olympics, an art painting for children with disabilities entitled “The Seagull” under the supervision of Coach Dalal Al-Najjar, and two artistic paragraphs entitled “With Joy” under the supervision of Muhammad Abu Asfour and Amina Al-Tarifi and “Hourani’s Wedding” under the supervision of Rania Al-Asaad and Imad Awfan.
Director of Social Affairs and Labor Nibal Hariri said in her speech that “participation is the basis of constructive and successful work,” indicating that the directorate worked with all parties to provide and secure real opportunities for people with disabilities to innovate according to their capabilities to have a footprint in society.
The General Coordinator of the Syrian Special Olympics in Daraa Habis Masalmeh pointed out that the sports project for people with disabilities began in Daraa thirty years ago and contributed to making world champions in athletics and football.
It is worth mentioning that the Special Olympics Foundation organized the fifth local session under the slogan “With enthusiasm we reach the summit” to enable and support the process of integrating people with disabilities into society, with the participation of three thousand participants in twenty-one games.
The honoring ceremony was attended by the Governor of Daraa, Eng. Louay Khareta, and the Secretary of the Arab Socialist Baath Party branch, Hussein Al-Rifai.
