The Ministry of Industry and the General Union of Farmers agreed to form a joint working committee in order to extract industrial production requirements from farmers, both plant and animal, and to develop a legal text for contracts that guarantee the rights and obligations of farmers and public industrial companies.

This came at the conclusion of a meeting between the ministry and the federation held today to discuss ways to secure the industrial public companies' need for agricultural products directly from farmers without intermediate links through prior contracts and at fair prices for farmers, in a way that contributes to stabilizing the production process of companies.

In their interventions during the meeting held in the union building, the heads of the subsidiary agricultural unions stressed the need to establish factories to accommodate agricultural production, raise the price of the juicy grape crop, establish a plant for pickling capers, rehabilitate the tire and tractor plant and oil production line in the Homs sugar plant, and create a new tobacco plant in Tartous and a consortium plant to accommodate production Tomatoes and the formation of a committee to study the specificity of each governorate with regard to its agricultural production and the establishment of appropriate industrial projects for it.

The participants raised the possibility of raising the price of sugar beet to encourage its cultivation, expansion of the cultivation of yellow corn, the establishment of dryers, oil and fodder factories for this product, the possibility of establishing a juice factory on the coast, activating the Deir ez-Zor gin, expanding contract cultivations and applying them correctly.

Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh stressed the partnership between the Ministry of Industry and the farmers to extract agricultural products directly to reduce the financial burdens on farmers and reduce the costs of industrial production in order to reach a final product at reasonable prices by encouraging contract farming between farmers and industrial public companies after the experience proved successful in the field of tobacco and partly beet. diabetes down to various products.

Sabbagh stressed the importance of coordination between the Ministries of Industry and Agriculture, the General Union of Peasants and the concerned authorities to conduct contracts with farmers that include additional incentives for contractors with government agencies and to overcome all obstacles facing agricultural work.

The head of the General Federation of Farmers, Ahmed Saleh Ibrahim, stressed the need to partner with the Ministry of Industry to establish projects based on agricultural products and to develop a future action plan in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture to break the intermediate link between the farmer and the consumer.

Ibrahim called for expanding the cultivation of sugar beet in the governorates of Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa, and planting sunflowers with sugar beet or corn, stressing that the union is ready to work in contract farming in partnership with the ministries of agriculture and industry in all production chains.

In turn, the Director General of the General Sugar Corporation, Saad Al-Din Al-Ali, stressed the importance of expanding the cultivation of sugar beet in order to achieve the economic feasibility of operating the Tal Salhab Sugar Factory, which has been rehabilitated by about 8 billion pounds, and to provide quantities of sugar, fodder, alcohol and smoothie that are used in the yeast industry.

For his part, the Director-General of the General Organization for Food Industries, Ibrahim Nasra, indicated the Corporation’s keenness to secure the needs of the corporation’s subsidiaries of agricultural, plant and animal products by contracting directly with farmers or through agricultural associations and associations, especially the tomato season, due to the necessity of the Damascus Conservation Company, which needs in its plan for the current year to 10 thousand tons and the stability of milk supply to the Damascus Dairy Company in a way that secures its daily manufacturing needs, stressing the institution’s efforts in coordination with the Ministry of Industry to secure the necessary liquidity to pay farmers’ dues in a timely manner.
