A day after the EU announced the resumption of unofficial contacts between Iran and the US as part of efforts to revive the nuclear deal, the Iranian Ministry of Defense announced another experiment with a satellite launcher.
It is a "Zolzhena" missile designed to launch satellites into space, but the very experiment with this missile is apparently intended to advance Iran's ballistic missile program.
The West is worried that progress in this area will one day improve Iran to also get the knowledge needed to assemble a nuclear warhead on a missile.
If the experiment was indeed carried out, this is the second time in the last two weeks that this satellite launcher has been launched.
According to Iran, this is a launch for "research" purposes in its space program, with no military intent.
It is unclear if the launch was successful.
