The left has sharpened its stance on Russia and clearly condemned the Russian attack on Ukraine.
With the decision of the Erfurt party conference on Sunday, the party leadership around the chairwoman Janine Wissler prevailed against a group around the member of the Bundestag Sahra Wagenknecht.
This wanted to emphasize NATO's joint responsibility in the run-up to the Ukraine war.
Erfurt – For the left it was a fundamental dispute.
Before the Russian attack on Ukraine in February, many in the party had expressed sympathy for Russian interests.
The valid party program demands the dissolution of NATO, which is to be replaced by a "collective security system with the participation of Russia".
The new resolution is a bit different from this line.
The version, which Wissler also promoted, accuses Russia of pursuing imperialist policies.
Moscow is trying to "establish authoritarian vassal regimes or - where this does not succeed - to destabilize the states" among post-Soviet states.
Russia is "one of the geostrategic power centers in fossil capitalism".
This motion also criticizes NATO for “thinking in geopolitical zones of influence and an arms race, especially between NATO, Russia and China”.
The 100 billion euro program for the Bundeswehr is again condemned, arms deliveries to Ukraine are rejected.
The approximately 570 delegates have been meeting in the Thuringian state capital since Friday and will conclude their party conference on Sunday afternoon.
