Every child knows that too much alcohol is unhealthy.

However, studies increasingly indicate that in addition to red wine, beer should also protect against diseases.

London – Whether after work, meeting friends or to toast something special: there are many occasions where alcohol is involved.

After all, it has long been socially established that you toast to something hard at a nice dinner or a convivial afternoon.

It's considered good manners to have a glass of wine or beer on these occasions.

But it shouldn't be too much, it's unhealthy.

Most people know that, but there is still great confusion.

Because on the one hand there are always studies that state that even a drop of alcohol damages the liver, heart and Co. and on the other hand others show that moderate consumption can even be healthy.

Researchers at the London Medical Laboratory have also investigated this.

They have specialized in blood tests and found out that beer can even prevent common diseases such as dementia or colon cancer.

It is well known that red wine has already been rehabilitated thanks to the secondary plant substances it contains.

But the British scientists also give the go-ahead for beer.

This emphasizes Dr.

Quinton Fivelman, Chief Scientific Advisor at the London Medical Laboratory, in a post for the online science forum Psychreg: "Our analysis of research from the US, Italy and the UK shows that moderate beer consumption is associated with increases in bone density, cardiovascular and immunological benefits as well as associated with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.”

Gut Health: Drinking alcohol in moderation is better than none at all

He also explains that the result relates to beer consumption only in moderation - one glass for women, two glasses for men.

It has also been shown that healthy adults who drink moderate amounts of beer regularly have a longer life expectancy than those who do not drink alcohol at all.

This is partly due to two substances contained in beer: the alcohol ethanol and polyphenols.

Both have an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect and protect the cells from free radicals.

In addition, they not only prevent cardiovascular diseases, but also cell death and malignant mutations, which can lead to cancers such as colon cancer.

When it comes to beer, however, it is better to use Kellerbier: the darker the type, the more of these substances the beer contains.

This is what Spanish researchers found in a 2020 study published in the journal Biomolecules.

Finally, beer contains other health-promoting substances such as many vitamins and minerals that keep bones strong and muscles and joints elastic in old age.
