Pope Francis urges the Government of Ecuador and indigenous leaders to abandon violence

After praying the Angelus, Pope Francis addressed this Sunday the Government of Ecuador and the indigenous leaders who have been protesting in the country since June 13.

The pontiff urged the warring parties to abandon violence and extreme positions.

On Saturday, authorities and protesters met for the first formal talks since the massive protests began, and President Guillermo Lasso lifted the state of emergency.
