Moscow - A mysterious incident has apparently occurred near Moscow.

Vadim Zimin was found seriously injured in his apartment in the north-west of the Russian capital.

The retired Russian colonel and ex-bodyguard was reportedly found by his brother lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen.

He is said to have a gunshot wound to the head and is fighting for his life in intensive care.

The brother is said to have been in the bathroom at the time of the shot.
