Vadim Zimin was found seriously injured in his apartment in the north-west of the Russian capital.
The retired Russian colonel and ex-bodyguard was reportedly found by his brother lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen.
He is said to have a gunshot wound to the head and is fighting for his life in intensive care.
The brother is said to have been in the bathroom at the time of the shot.

He was most recently employed at customs.” The Kremlin critic also mentioned a rumor that Zimin has since passed away.
