Energy prices in particular are a burden on the population in Germany.

Chancellor Scholz wants to respond with a one-time payment.

The first details are already known.

Berlin – Chancellor Olaf Scholz is apparently pushing for a tax-free one-off payment in response to rising inflation.

That reports the

- and refers to consultations that are to take place with employers' associations and unions on Monday (July 4th).

According to the report, the information comes from government circles.

In this way, Scholz wants to prevent a further escalation of the wage-price spiral.

According to the Federal Chancellery, the driver of the rising inflation is probably a bottleneck in the supply, both for products and in the energy sector.

The tax-free one-time payment that Scholz proposes should be an alternative to wage increases.

According to the Chancellery, the advantages of this are that it quickly reaches employees and, above all, strengthens low-income earners.

The Chancellor's project could, however, slow down Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP).

He recently said that all relief measures "must move within the framework of the debt brake".

Lindner received support from Federal Minister of Social Affairs Hubertus Heil (SPD).

According to Heil, the state “cannot compensate for everything for everyone”.

The inflation rate in Germany reached 7.9 percent in May, the highest level since the winter of 1973/1974.

However, the end of the development should not yet be reached - especially not if gas supplies from Russia should fail permanently.

So far, the federal government has primarily tried to cushion the burden on the population with individual measures such as the 9-euro ticket, the fuel discount or the heating cost subsidy.

In order to increase the pressure on Russia in the Ukraine war, Chancellor Olaf Scholz will hold discussions with the representatives of the G7 states in Elmau near Munich on Sunday.
