Series of masterpieces at Montpellier Danse

The festival saw the birth of two dazzling pieces, signed by choreographers Ohad Naharin and Emanuel Gat.


With

2019

which, due to Covid, took three years to reach Montpellier, Ohad Naharin signs a stroke of genius.

As powerful as

Deca Dance

created in 2000 to celebrate its ten years at the head of Bathsheva.

The play, given in front of 250 spectators placed on either side of a catwalk 3 meters wide by 25 long set up on the Corum stage, organizes a sort of skin-to-skin contact between the public and its idols.

Dressed in colorful costumes, they pass, superb, within easy reach of the spectators, whether they stare eye to eye or ignore.

All splendid, all diverse, all chiseled in a perfection, which is in itself a delight.

Muscles, sweat, effort, weight, strength, grace: the dancers seem to be fascinating creatures blooming in the light and swallowed up by the wings.

Beneath its performance-like appearance, the piece is choreographed to the millimeter.
