The protest camp in Garmisch-Partenkirchen against the G7 summit in Elmau is slowly filling up.

An activist talks about his experiences in an interview.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen – "Of course we can't storm the mountain now": 18-year-old Buhari Lehbib is one of the activists in the protest camp against the G7 summit in Elmau.

"I think for most people here it's about standing against imperialism and against unfair climate policy," he explains in a video interview with

Merkur.de.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: Activist from protest camp demands “better alternative”

"It's about educating public, political opinion and showing that we're not the only ones opposed to this." There are many problems at the G7, but if everyone sat down together, a "better alternative" would emerge.

From citizen to citizen.

Dealing with the topic yourself as a citizen is enormously important for him.

The camp is designed for 750 people.

At the moment it still looks quite tranquil.

However, some organizations will still come from Munich on Sunday to take part in the planned large-scale demonstration in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

It is still unclear how many campers there will be in the end.

According to Lehbib, the protest camp serves as a contact point for activists.

So far everything has been quiet.

Communication with the police works well.

The officials are "relatively sympathetic".

However, they have not yet “made a big opinion”.

According to the young activist, on Sunday it could be quite interesting how the officials react at the demo.

G7 summit: protest camp sticks together in bad weather - "Solidarity is beautiful"

Lehbib arrived from Berlin with other camp participants on Friday.

At the police controls, their bus was simply waved through.

The journey still took longer than the 18-year-old had expected.

He describes everyday camp life peacefully: Breakfast in the morning, at some point a plenary meeting to discuss what is to come and otherwise we sit together and relax.

There is even a program pinboard at the entrance to the camp.

During the storms on Friday, everyone in the camp stuck together.

Tents that had already been set up in the morning served as places to sleep, and some demonstrators also found shelter in the community tents.

It was "very wet", but the solidarity among each other was "beautiful".
