The flag consecration of the Atteltaler in Grafing on Sunday was a high festival for the customs.

The costumers proved: they are prepared for the future.

Grafing

– The visitors showed fitness and perseverance: The festive service for the flag consecration of the Atteltal Trachtler on the Grafinger market square demanded a lot from them in the blazing sun.

Sunday morning could hardly have been better.

But it was very hot.

The people of Atteltal distributed mineral water free of charge.

1,400 costumers from the entire district of Ebersberg, but also from Miesbach, Schönau, Ostermünchen and Heufeld, came to Grafing to attend the flag ceremony of the Atteltaler.

Of course, the Bairers were there too, after all, they are the Grafinger's sponsorship association.

Numerous clubs from the region accompanied the Grafinger Atteltaler at their flag consecration.

Flag delegations gather for the fair at the market square in Grafing

After the reception of the clubs in the marquee on Jahnstraße, four stately trains and the sounds of the Emmeringer Musi, the Eichhofner Musi and the Bair brass band went to the center of Grafing.

There, an altar had been erected in the middle, over which the Grafinger and Bavarian flags were waving.

The procession was led by the board of directors of the Atteltaler, Alois Stockinger and the Grafing town band.

While the guests lined up on the market square with their delegations of flags, Stockinger and his members picked up the church service at the vicarage and accompanied them to the center.

Two years of waiting: finally the flag is consecrated

The Grafinger Trachtler had to wait two years for this moment.

Although the flag had been completed a long time ago, the corona pandemic repeatedly prevented a ceremonial consecration with numerous guests.

Now it was time.

At the service, the Grafingen board of directors then welcomed the town pastor Anicet Mutonkole-Muyombi and Dean Josef Riedl from Ebersberg, who celebrated the festive mass together.

Originally, Auxiliary Bishop Bernhard Hasslberger was supposed to hold this service.

Hasslberger, however, is in the hospital, said Riedl, which is why the choice fell spontaneously on him.

The Grafinger flag was "placed in the long history of the Atteltaler", said the dean in his sermon.

“That points to the future.

Otherwise you wouldn't need a new flag if the club had no future.” The Emmeringer brass band provided the music for the festive service.

The flag is a sign of community and togetherness, said Riedl at the blessing.

A little rest in the shade: The summer heat demanded a certain level of fitness from those wearing traditional costumes.

Celebrations in the marquee

The flag ribbons were then attached.

Among other things, the city of Grafing donated a ribbon that was presented by Mayor Christian Bauer.

At the end, the first two verses of the Bavarian anthem were played.

Then the festival community marched back to the fairground, where lunch was already waiting for the guests from near and far.

At 2 p.m. there was a parade through Grafing.

The celebrations will end today, Monday, with a hearty kettle meat meal in the marquee.

The “right people” create the atmosphere.
