Japanese game developer and distributor Square Enix is releasing its annual report presented to the company's shareholders, who continue to reveal to us that part of the company's future plans is to continue to focus on NFT technology and play-to-earn based mechanics. Blockchain.
One line stood out in the report, where it was stated that the company is interested in launching a new brand and developing a single-story game with a story and a wide world that will be NFT-based.
The company's president,
Yusuke Matsuda
, noted that "at the moment it is too early to consider developing blockchain-based Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy series games."
This gives us the impression that while Square Enix is interested in developing a NFT-based feature single-player game in the future, it is first interested in "exploring the ground" before launching such a game with some of the brands considered to be its flagship series.

In early May, Sqaure Enix sold its Western miners, Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, for $ 300 million to Swedish holding company Embracer Groups.
These keys are responsible for more than 50 beloved and well-known brands like Tomb Raider, Hitman, Deus Ex and even Guardians of the Galaxy.
This sale was a planned move by Square Enix, which for some time planned to get rid of its Western brands, especially after disappointing sales and failures of games like Marvel's Avengers, and the fact that it sees most of the growth and revenue from Japanese role-playing games on mobile.

Square Enix has never hidden the fact that it is interested in continuing to invest in blockchain technology in the future, and Matsuda has spoken out on a number of occasions on the subject in a positive way and claimed that he is a big believer in technology despite much criticism.
One of those remarks that made many players angry is a line in a letter he sent to company employees earlier this year in which there was a particularly notable line: "They gave no explicit incentive to a group of people as they wanted to make the games more exciting (by developing new mechanics), and they were motivated solely by personal emotions."
