The speed limit was 120 km/h – but a Porsche thundered down the autobahn at 285 km/h.

A helicopter followed him and the speeder was arrested.

El Espinar (Spain) – Whether it's traffic rules or speed limits: some drivers care little or not at all about road traffic regulations.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, a speeding car was recently flashed three times in five hours - mind you, in the same place.

And in the Netherlands, the police confiscated a Nissan GT-R that had raced through Rotterdam with up to 159 things.

Now a Porsche driver has made a spectacular speeding trip on a Spanish motorway - but in the end the police caught him.

A speed limit of 120 km/h applies to passenger cars on Spanish motorways – however, a Porsche driver was traveling more than twice as fast on the AP-6 near El Espinar near Madrid: A helicopter pursued the Porsche 911 Turbo and took the measurements record-breaking speeds of up to 285 km/h.

According to Spanish media reports, however, the driver did not quite reach the record from 2021 when a speeder - also with a Porsche - was measured at 295 km/h on a motorway.

285 km/h instead of the permitted 120: Police stop Porsche racers at the toll station

According to the Spanish traffic authority Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT), the speeder is an Irishman – the DGT published a video of the speeder action on Twitter, which was filmed from the helicopter.

It shows how the Porsche is eventually intercepted by a police vehicle at a toll booth.

285 km/h instead of the permitted 120: Porsche driver races on an accident-prone section of the route

As reported by "El Mundo", the Irish Porsche racer was arrested by the traffic police.

In the section of road where the speed violation was found, there were already 28 traffic accidents this year alone, with two dead and eleven seriously injured.

Not only in Spain traffic violations can be extremely expensive - so holidaymakers should inform themselves thoroughly about the traffic rules abroad before starting the journey.

Some of these differ significantly from the German regulations.
