Following an undercover investigation, the police in Yavne last night (Sunday) arrested a Netanya resident in his 50s, impersonating Baba Sally's grandson in order to deceive citizens in distress by collecting "donations" in exchange for a blessing.
Investigators at the Yavneh station have been conducting an undercover investigation in recent weeks, after receiving a pile of complaints from residents of the Shefela regarding suspicion of a fraudulent exercise, in which a man pretended to suspect Baba Sally's grandson of fraudulently extorting money from innocent citizens, taking advantage of their mental distress.

As the investigation progressed, suspicions arose about the suspect's method of operation and identity: a Netanya resident in his 50s, who drove to the cities of humiliation in a luxury car while posing as a beggar in ultra-Orthodox clothing, addresses passersby as introducing himself as the rabbi's grandson, and fraudulently takes thousands of thousands NIS "for a blessing".
Meanwhile, Yavneh station investigators collected the required evidence, and last night, as the investigation progressed to the overt stage, they arrested the suspect "in the act" when he arrived in the Yavneh area and committed the same offense.
