After the ski school closed, the Strefling sports shop is also closing - clearance sale from July

The customers and friends of Sport Strefling come together on Friday for a sad and a happy occasion: to celebrate the 50th anniversary and to say goodbye to the sports shop on Brucker Straße.

However, the business will remain with the people of Dachau – albeit in a different way.

Dachau – An era is coming to an end in Dachau: Sport Strefling on Brucker Straße is closing – after 50 years.

The clearance sale will begin at the same time as a small ceremony on Friday.

"There are discounts throughout July and August, everything has to go," says Daniela Gaßner.

However, she and her father Ralf Strefling will remain with the Dachau residents with their expertise: They specialize in sports shoes and open a new shop in the Schermhof in mid-November.

But first, it's time to celebrate 50 years of existence and say goodbye - all at once.

The clearance sale begins on Friday, July 1st.

At 6 p.m. there will be a short speech and a look back at 50 years of Sport Strefling.

The history of the traditional Dachau shop began in 1972 in a small room on Münchner Strasse in Dachau.

Ralf Strefling, who actually studied mechanical engineering, founded the sports shop.

His brother Vicky joined him a few years later with a state ski instructor exam - and the foundation stone for the ski school was laid.

The sports shop grew and moved to Klagenfurter Platz in Dachau-Süd in 1976.

In September 1987, the larger store was opened on Brucker Strasse, the current location.

For Ralf and Monika Strefling, the business and ski school became the focus of their lives - alongside their three children Daniela, Markus and Stefanie.

Ski school Strefling had to close: "I lost my courage"

"With a lot of help from the ski instructors at the time, family and friends, the shop was able to take shape - everyone helped together," says Daniela Gaßner.

Over the years, the range has changed a little bit, but what has remained is winter sports and the ski school.

Until last winter.

"I lost the courage to continue the Dachau ski school as usual," says Daniela Gassner.

The planning uncertainty, the hygiene rules, the Corona-related staff shortages, the winter with less snow: "All of this made an orderly process more and more difficult."

Therefore, the ski school ceased operations forever.

It had long been clear that the sports shop on Brucker Strasse would no longer have a future either: the house in which the Streflings rented the rooms is old, and the notice came.

"Then we received an offer for new premises," says Gassner.

"But we are changing," explains the Dachau native.

The Streflings say goodbye to winter sports and specialize in sports and outdoor shoes.

“Dad stays by my side.” The “Sportschuh Strefling” shop is scheduled to open in mid-November.

Until then it's time to say goodbye to Daniela Gaßner and her parents Monika and Ralf Strefling on Brucker Strasse.

"Many customers are shocked that we are stopping," says Gassner.

At least it is a small consolation that Sport Strefling will remain in Dachau – albeit in a different form.
