The end of combustion engines in the EU could come from 2035.
Christian Lindner had already announced that he would vote against it.
Now Habeck speaks up.
Berlin – Robert Habeck (Greens) is willing to compromise in the dispute over a possible combustion engine exit.
"Europe is a living compromise machine, and we are working on it," said the Green politician on Monday in Luxembourg.
A good solution must be found for the various “special perspectives” of different EU states.
The Vice Chancellor did not say what such a solution could look like.
Habeck's colleague Christian Lindner (FDP) recently declared that he would vote against an end to combustion engines in the EU from 2035.
The politician was criticized for these statements by Fridays for Future, among others.
Within the FDP, on the other hand, there was encouragement for the party leader.
Combustion off in the EU: the result of the vote is open
At the EU level, a decision is to be taken this week on a ban on the sale of new cars with combustion engines from 2035.
The decision to phase out combustion engines is part of the so-called Fit-for-55 package, an EU climate protection package.
While the Greens are in favor of phasing out combustion engines from 2035, the FDP in the federal government is campaigning for new cars with combustion engines to be allowed to be sold after 2035.
