The Hong Kong government will continue to pay the examination fees for school candidates who take the HKDSE examination in the coming year, excluding self-study students. It is worth noting that the registration fee for self-study students has been increased to 534 yuan, and the examination fee for other language subjects has been increased to 697 yuan per subject. The HKEAA said that the November 2022 examinations for Category C subjects will have six other language subjects, including: French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Spanish and Urdu.

Candidates applying for Category C subjects in the 2023 HKDSE will be combined with the number of Category A and Category B subjects they have taken, and the total number cannot exceed the maximum of eight subjects.

The results of the relevant subject examinations are tentatively scheduled to be released in late January next year.

Those applying for the 2023 HKDSE as self-study students must meet one of the following conditions, including having sat the HKDSE, or an equivalent examination; or, as of 1 January next year, have reached the age of 19; or have not taken the HKDSE course, but have completed or are studying in 2022/2023 a course determined by the HKEAA to be equivalent to Secondary 6.

The HKEAA reminds that candidates who apply in the name of self-study students are not allowed to apply for the 2023 HKDSE in the name of school candidates at the same time.

In terms of examination fees, the registration fee for self-study students is 534 yuan, an increase of 2% compared with 524 yuan last year; as for other language subjects, the examination fee is 697 yuan per subject, an increase of 2% year-on-year.

Applicants are required to log in to the HKDSE Online Application Registration System to submit their application.
