Erding now officially has an alpine center with a boulder facility.

It was inaugurated on Saturday.

Erding - "Climbing wasn't actually one of Erdinger's competences until then," said Hermann Schiessl, chairman of the Alpenkranzl in the German Alpine Association (DAV), at the inauguration of the new alpine center at the Kronthaler Weiher.

But now, after extensive renovation of the former Stoiber sawmill and the construction of a bouldering arena there, Erding's largest club for those who want to climb has a completely new, attractive sports facility on offer.

Next year, when this DAV section celebrates its centenary, the 17 meter high climbing tower should also be ready - with an area of 450 square meters.

Athletes who have the necessary fitness and a head for heights can test themselves here at various levels of difficulty.

The bouldering facility has been in operation since April, bought by the club almost new in Bad Feilnbach in 2018 and set up at the end of 2021.

"We didn't just want to follow the general trend towards climbing, bouldering also offers very good opportunities for youth work," said Schiessl, outlining the motivation for the construction.

At the same time, a clubhouse was built into the old Stoiber mill.

For this purpose, a modern solar heating system was installed and new floors, windows and doors were installed.

Masonry, ceilings and the roof were also in need of renovation, new sanitary facilities, electrics and a locking system were necessary.

"In order to work with people here, we also had to build an outside staircase and provide the necessary fire protection. Most of this work was done by members, friends and volunteers on an honorary basis," said the section head, pleased about the commitment.

Schiessl also thanked the city, not only for the financial help, after all, a public path had to be relocated.

In return, he received thanks from Mayor Max Gotz, who sees the system as a "good investment to re-tighten a generational bond".

Climbing has developed an enormous dynamic in society that needs to be used and supported.

Maybe this sport will soon be seen in schools.

District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer, who took a first look at the climbing walls, is convinced "that bouldering is fun for all age groups".

So that the new facility, with its around 200 square meters of floor space, very different levels of difficulty and thus a large variety of routes, is also under God's blessing, it was inaugurated at the ceremony by the Catholic city pastor Martin Garmaier and his Protestant colleague Christoph Keller.

Afterwards, the visitors were able to take a tour of the renovated clubhouse and the bouldering facility.

A summer party ended the day.
