After the FDC's application for a parade on July 1 of the previous year was opposed by the police, former Democratic Party chairman Hu Zhiwei and many others still appealed to the public to participate in the parade, and a total of 8 people were arrested afterwards.

The only one who pleaded not guilty, former District Councillor Chan Wing-tai, was tried in the District Court today (27th), denying one count of inciting others to knowingly participate in an unauthorized assembly.

The case alleges that the defendants in the same case, knowing that the parade was not approved, still raised flags outside the Court of Final Appeal and shouted slogans such as "See you on July 1st Street", and called the public to participate in the illegal assembly through no less than 12 public media. Including Chen Rongtai and others, all made appeals and shouted slogans such as "Abolish the National Security Law".

Afterwards, there were street clashes later in the July 1st parade.

Chen Rongtai also attended the press conference before 7.1

The prosecution's opening statement stated that the FDC's application to the police for the July 1 rally was rejected the previous year.

However, Chen Rongtai still held a press conference with Chen Haohuan, Zeng Jiancheng, Hu Zhiwei and others outside the Court of Final Appeal on June 30. Through public media such as Radio Television Hong Kong and TVB, they proposed to other unidentified people and convened the public or other people to meet in 2020. On July 1, 2018, they took to the streets for a parade.

He once chanted slogans such as repealing the National Security Law

During the period, Chen Rongtai held a slogan "against the national security law and went to the streets on July 1st", shouted slogans such as "abolish the national security law", "see you on the streets on July 1st", and spoke in front of the media, saying: "In 2003, there was a trip out. At that time, everyone can go out in the same way. Let’s take a look at a so-called National Security Law this year. Listening to our indicators in Japan, as a Hong Konger who wants to go to the streets during the holidays, it is possible to scare SOGO in Causeway Bay. If something happens, I just want to try to find out what's going on."

Violence occurred after the rally that day

On the day of the incident, a large number of demonstrators gathered in Causeway Bay.

Chen Haohuan, Zhu Kaidi and Liang Guoxiong led hundreds of demonstrators to participate in the march, which started from Hennessy Road to Yunsheng Road before dispersing.

Later in the day, there were violent acts in the Causeway Bay area, including road blockage, spilling money, and arson.

The trial continued at noon.
